Sage Communications Exec Penelope Longbottom To Be Inducted Into the Satellite Hall of Fame

The Society of Satellite Professionals International’s Awards Committee has selected Penelope Longbottom, founder of Longbottom Communications and most recently president of Sage Communications’ satellite division, to be inducted into the Satellite Hall of Fame.

The SSPI Hall of Fame recognizes the invaluable contributions of the visionaries who have transformed life on planet Earth for the better through satellite technology. Members of the Hall of Fame are recognized pioneers in communications, satellite-related aerospace, scientific research, or the development and delivery of applications for business, institutions and government via satellite.

“We couldn’t be more proud to see this prestigious honor bestowed on one of our Sage executives,” said Larry Rosenfeld, president and CEO of Sage Communications. “We acquired Penelope’s eponymous firm in 2013 because of its sterling reputation as a marketing communications firm achieving measurable branding and marketing results for its global satellite clientele. Her reputation as a knowledgeable and visionary satellite marketing executive is well deserved – as is her selection for induction into the SSPI Hall of Fame.”

Penelope devoted her 30+ year career in the satellite profession to advancing the business and organizational objectives of many leading companies through applied branding and proactive marketing, PR and thought leadership strategies. She pioneered the strategic positioning, marketing and public awareness of such innovative new satellite services as Japan Communications Satellite (JCSAT), American Mobile Satellite (AMSC), digital direct-to-home television service (DirecTV) and the historic Lockheed Martin joint venture with Intersputnik (LMI). She was instrumental in founding the Satellite Industry Association in 1995 and was subsequently elected its first chairman, and served in leadership roles in the Washington Chapter of SSPI and the Washington Space Business Roundtable (WSBR).

“I am awed and humbled to be honored by our industry’s leading professional organization, especially in view of some of the truly great leading lights of the business that have been inducted into the SSPI Hall of Fame before me,” said Longbottom. “From my first day in the business 30 years ago, I was captivated by the promise and potential of satellite communications to change the world for the better. I hope that my contributions have helped contribute both to that global promise, as well as to the long-term organizational growth of the many firms it’s been my privilege to serve over the years.”
