Purple Penguin PR (PPP) recently announced the signing of its new client, San Diego Chapter of Truman National Security Project. PPP was retained to provide local public relations and media relations services for the 3rd annual Truman San Diego Memorial Day Sunrise Rose Ceremony. The agency built press materials, provided media training for spokespersons and implemented a communications program to promote the event.
The Truman San Diego Memorial Day Sunrise Rose Ceremony took place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at sunrise on Memorial Day 2017. Leaders of the San Diego Chapter of Truman National Security Project, along with elected officials, community leaders, Veterans, gold star families and local volunteers, honored the people who died while serving in the armed forces by laying 30,000 roses on graves at the cemetery. Truman San Diego Memorial Day Sunrise Rose Ceremony began in 2015 with 1,000 roses and 20 volunteers.
In 2016, it had 140 volunteers and 6,600 roses. This year, the event grew exponentially with 30,000 roses, four wreaths, and more than 600 volunteers. PPP was able to solidify significant media placements including features and live interviews with local broadcast and print outlets both pre-event and day-of-event.
Agency owner, Ray Drasnin, stated, “It was truly an honor to represent the dedicated team from Truman National Security Project and the annual Sunrise Rose Ceremony. We look forward to working with them in the future to pay homage to our fallen warriors. These men and women, our Veterans, are national heroes.”
