Length of PR career (so far): Officially, only a year but have been involved in the PR industry for 2 years already.

Your most memorable campaign: Difficult to choose as I have worked on some amazing campaigns! If I had to narrow it down I think it would be a recent Bubbly Festival that we worked on called the Splash of Pink: Paul Rene Bubbly Festival.  It was an intimate and exclusive event but with incredible PR returns which went above both our and our clients’ expectations!

Most poignant professional moment: Hot Oven Marketing recently came in 2nd place for the Best Emerging Tourism Business in the Premier Entrepreneurial Recognition Awards in the Western Cape, South Africa. Being personally congratulated by Helen Zille, the current Premier of the Western Cape was definitely a highlight this year!

Mira Weiner, Hot Oven MarketingFavorite journalist to work with: I have been privileged enough to meet the most incredible people in the media industry in South Africa. The new digital space and blogging community have been amazing networks to work with and I have been blessed to have many media colleagues become personal friends during the last two years.

Number of 2 a.m. calls from a client this month: I was lucky not to have any 2 a.m. calls this month! Usually only over weekends and because I love what I do, I am often in the office anyway!

Best thing about working at your agency: We partner with our clients to bake ideas and build business and are constantly evolving and creating new ideas for the travel, tourism and wine industry. This is great fun as it means we are able to be both creative and practical at the same time. We are also extremely lucky to work with brilliant clients!

Mira Weiner, Hot Oven MarketingLast time you didn’t do any work all weekend: Being your own boss means you’re always on duty! Public relations and social media are 24/7 and when you are passionate about the work you do, you really never work a day in your life because it’s more than just a job!

Most misunderstood thing about PR: PR is hard work but great fun and often people don’t realize that we do more than just wine and dine to entertain media. Lots of hard work, strategy planning and admin go on behind the scenes before and after great events!

What got you interested in a PR career? I didn’t choose the PR industry, it chose me. I am a people’s person, passionate foodie, wine lover and I live, dream and breathe travel. I love travel and want to inspire South Africans to be a tourist in their own country. As part of our offering we have a destination marketing service and in a country that is hungry for positive change and new opportunities, the tourism landscape provides an incredible opportunity to promote entrepreneurship, encourage skills development and to provide much needed employment opportunities. This combines my skills, passion and drive to make a difference in the lives of others all together!

Your nightmare client in 3 words: High expectations with limited budget!

Rate your math skills from 1-10: My math skills are good as I used to tutor math while I was studying so I would give myself a 7 out of 10. Just don’t ask me to do accounting, that’s my worst! I have had to learn about business finance, a challenge in itself as I am definitely the marketing queen and not the finances brain!

Best advice to a PR student: Never stop learning, ask for help and find a mentor! Everyone has started at the beginning at some point in their lives and there are lots of people willing to give guidance and support. It is so important to have someone that you can bounce ideas off and can lead you in the right direction, especially when you are starting out!

Mira Weiner, Hot Oven MarketingThe moment you realized PR is more fun than you thought it would be: When standing on a chair to take the perfect Instagram shot at a wine farm, you realize that the PR industry can be challenging but it is lots of fun too!

Brand that does the best PR: We may be slightly biased on this one, but we also work with a wonderful in house team for both the brands of Van Loveren and Four Cousins.

Favorite non-work hobby: Exploring new travel destinations as well as cooking up a storm with a delicious glass of local wine from the well-known Robertson Wine Valley!

Last book you read: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – the Power of a Paradigm Shift by Stephen R. Covey. His wisdom will change your life and your perception of how you view everything!

Cocktail of choice: Mojito’s and Daiquiri’s

Your next big adventure: Planning an overseas trip! Currently have my heart set on Italy, Israel and India. My own little Eat, Pray, Love journey 🙂

Your ideal Saturday: I am obsessed with markets so all great Saturdays must start with exploring a country market. Followed by delicious food and wine with friends and family.
