PRSA|GA Bestows Annual Chapter Awards
The Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (www.prsageorgia.org) recently bestowed its annual Chapter Awards, recognizing outstanding Chapter members:
- Renee Kopkowski was named the Radiant Star in memory of Dyar Massey. This award recognizes a Chapter member with more than 20 years of experience. Kopkowski leads corporate affairs for Mars Chocolate North America and prior to that, was co-owner of Wonder Public Relations, a boutique communications agency. Her early career included television news as well as media relations and internal communications for two large hospital systems in Florida and Georgia. She is actively involved in PRSA and is the former president of PRSA|GA, the nation's second-largest PRSA chapter.
- Alison Tyrer, director of communications for the Georgia Department of Economic Development, was awarded the Luminary Star Award, for a member with 13 to 19 years of experience in public relations. Tyrer began her professional career as a radio personality in Georgia and North Carolina. She is a board member of PRSA|GA and a member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association, the Georgia Press Association and the Atlanta Press Club.
- Patty Gregory, manager of public relations at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, was awarded the Shining Star Award, reflecting six to 12 years of experience in public relations. An active member of PRSA|GA, she has held leadership roles on the Education Committee and will co-chair the Phoenix Awards Committee in 2013. She has also served as a mentor through the International Association of Business Communicators.
- Kelsey Schmitt, communications coordinator at Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, received the Rising Star Award, given to a member with five or fewer years of experience. Schmitt attended PRSA|GA's Real World PR conference and quickly became involved with the chapter. She served on the Membership Committee host team and as co-chair for the Young Professionals Special Interest Group for the past two years and is serving as co-chair for the 2013 Real World PR conference.
